Introduction The Erhu is called Chinese violin. One of the reasons is that both Erhu and violin are thought to have an ancient ancestor appearing in Persia about 3,000 years ago. The west migration led to the first violins in Europe, while the east move along the Silk Road gave rise to a family of instruments called Hu-Qin. They were brought by barbarians into China in the Han Dynasty (140 BC); the Erhu itself was first described in the Song Dynasty (AD 420-79). Long time change have made Erhu a delicate instrument with rich performing potentiality. Talented Erhu soloist can use it to play both the oriental and the western music, no matter it is classical, pop or country style. An well-adjusted Erhu can produce beautiful and haunting sounds, and that's why Erhu is getting more and more popular all over the world.
