The Hurt Locker, directed by Cameron's ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow, was made for a stingy $US15 million ($A16.65 million) and has a poor $US19 million ($A21 million) in box office takings worldwide, while the $US400 million ($A444 million) budgeted Avatar continues to march into uncharted box office territory with a staggering $US2.55 billion ($A2.83 billion) in ticket sales to make it the biggest blockbuster in cinematic history.
